Soccer: SBS to televise Perth Glory vs Chelsea from Optus Stadium

THE soccer match between English FA Cup winners Chelsea FC and Perth Glory at Optus Stadium on July 23 will be broadcasted exclusively on SBS live and free.

The marquee match will be the first soccer game played at the new multipurpose stadium and will be Tony Popovic’s first game as head coach of the Glory, as his side take on the English Premier League giants.

It will be simulcast in Australia via The World Game website, The World Game app and on SBS on Demand.

SBS director of sport Ken Shipp said: “We are pleased to be presenting the broadcast of Chelsea’ first game in Perth since 1974 live, free and in HD on SBS later this year.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for Australian football fans to see one of our local sides go head to head with one of the most established clubs in Europe at a brand new, state-of-the-art stadium, with the trusted coverage and comprehensive analysis SBS is known for.

“We’re proud of our football heritage at SBS and we know the sport’s ability to unite Australia’s diverse communities will be more prevalent than ever in the wake of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.”

SBS will also broadcast 25 FIFA World Cup games live, free and in HD including the opening match, semi finals, final, and all Socceroos fixtures.

The match is set to take place between the end of the 2018 World Cup and before the 2018-19 English Premier League season.
