Swimmers from 13 primary schools compete at Wesley College

THIRTEEN primary schools sent 296 swimmers to the 22nd Southside Penrhos Wesley Schools Swim Challenge 2018 at Wesley College last weekend.

Students from Year 3-6 competed to be named champion of their year group, broke records and brought home awards to their schools.

Southside Penrhos Wesley president Grant Shillington said three more local schools joined the challenge this year, which showed the depth of swimming in the local area.

The schools involved this year were Wesley College, Penrhos College, South Perth Primary, Kensington Primary, Como Primary, Applecross Primary, Millen Primary, Collier Primary, Ardross Primary, Mt Pleasant Primary, St Columba’s Catholic Primary, St Pius X Catholic Primary and Ursula Frayne Catholic College.

Penrhos College was the Champion of the Female team, Wesley College named Champion of the Male team and Applecross Primary named Champion of the combined team.

Five records were broken on Saturday, including the Year 5 girls 50m freestyle and year 4 girls 50m breaststroke broken by Penrhos College swimmers, Year 4 boys 50m freestyle broken by Wesley College and Year 4 boys 50m breaststroke broken by Ursula Frayne.
