SOUTHSIDE Penrhos Wesley Swimming Club members found success at the Australian Swimming Championships in Brisbane.

Swimmers Chris Purcell (19), Bundi Dingjan (24), Matt Harding (19) and Ben Waldhuter (20) claimed bronze in the men’s 4x100m freestyle club relay event on April 9.

The men swam faster than their entry time with the first claimed by the Marion Swimming Club who included Olympian Kyle Chalmers.

The record result, in a time of 3:24.31, comes on the back of serious illness in the team with Purcell recovering from a recent appendectomy and Waldhuter being involved in a motorbike accident.

Coach Nick Watkins said: “It was a fantastic team effort creating heaps of excitement within the team.

“It was wonderful to receive so much support from home after the race.”

Team member Bundi Dingjin competed in three individual events – the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 50m breaststroke.
