Victoria Park Croquet Club president Bethwyn Johnson said was a lot of excitement among croquet players for the event.

“The level of play at the championships compared to just the Perth clubs is much superior because the top players in the country will come here,” she said.

“Golf croquet is a bit different from association croquet because it’s much quicker and more aggressive.

“Association croquet can last up to 3.5 hours while golf croquet games only go for about 40 minutes, it’s not as complicated to play.”

Ms Johnson said golf croquet had allowed the sport to become more popular with younger people.

“We have different groups who come for a hit, because it’s faster and more aggressive game you can play quickly,” she said.

“There are some young players coming to the championships too, there’s a 15-year-old player from New South Wales competing.

“We’d love to see even more young people come for a hit at our club too.”
