WACA Premier Cricket: Perth attack lacks fire in loss to Subiaco Floreat

Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

PERTH went in to day two of its fixture against Subiaco Floreat on Saturday with reasonable hopes of securing victory, defending 298 at Floreat Park Oval.

But the Demons could not get the regular back-to-back wickets needed to put the opposition on the back foot.

Recent Western Warriors debutant Andrew Holder’s unbeaten century and strong middle-order support saw Subiaco Floreat win comfortably.

Second grade took the game to the wire in a thriller.

Needing 132 to win, the last pair of Akash Fotedar and Gijs Kroesen saw Perth home after joining at 9 for 120.

Captain Bronson Chabros scored 39 earlier in the match.

Fourth grade took first innings honours but surrendered an outright loss with another poor batting effort.

Kunal Mishra took 6-50 to bowl Subiaco Floreat out for 117, before Perth collapsed in its second innings to be all out for 88, leaving an easy target.

On Sunday, Perth was eliminated from the Premier T20 Competition.

A brilliant opening stand of 131 between Jonathan Wells (80) and Jacob Snadden (50) helped the Demons post a competitive total of 155.

Fremantle made a fast start from the first ball and kept its run rate up throughout, winning in the final over.

Wells rounded a good day with two wickets bowling leg-spin.

There was better news for the colts, who sit atop group A and go through to the semi-finals.

Perth made a modest 111, (Adam Disisto 43) but strangled Fremantle to be all out for 90 with all the bowlers contributing in a good team effort.

Perth face neighbour South Perth next Saturday, with first and third grade games at Fletcher Park.
