A STUNNING partnership between Luke Jury and Angus Webster has put Perth in a terrific position after Day One of their Premier Cricket fixture against Gosnells, with the pair recovering the innings from early trouble.

Chris Prescott and Luis Reece were destructive early at Sutherlands Park, as the visitors fell to a paltry 5-35 early.

Both openers took two wickets, before Jury and Webster combined for a record 202-run stand to pull their side back into the contest.

Jury finished 109 not out, while Webster was caught for 117 in a fantastic display of patience and maturity.

Perth finished the day 6-309, with Jacob Van Galen the other not out batsman on 53.

South Perth posted a competitive score against an in-form Willetton, showing their position on the table is certainly justified.

The Sky Blues managed 258 all out, with Dragons strike bowler Simon Mackin going wicketless through the innings.

Rob Jones and Darius D’Silva were wonderful for the visitors, combining for a 100-run stand to guide the side past 200.

Jones scored 67, while D’Silva managed a patient 66 in a vital partnership.

Spinners Brad Hogg and D’Arcy Short did the damage for Willetton taking three and two wickets respectively, while skipper Matt Johnston was the other main contributor with two.

This has the makings of a classic next weekend, as the Sky Blues look for early wickets to begin day two.
