WACA Premier Cricket: South Perth’s stubborn tail denies Perth

Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

THE finals dreams of the Perth Demons became a nightmare after they went down to South Perth in the First Grade semi-final at Richardson Park on the weekend.

South Perth openers Trent Ovens (46) and Hugh Brown (60) had a century opening stand.

The middle session belonged to Perth as South Perth collapsed to 8-148 but could not finish off the tail and the home side made 268.

Openers Jacob Snadden and Tom Casey safely negotiated Perth to 36 before losing 10 wickets for just 29 runs to be all out at 65.

There was better news in lower- grade semi-finals as the second- grade Demons dismissed Bayswater-Morley for 169, with Michael Grzinic (4-39) and Dean Nelson (3-30) the pick of the bowlers.

Nelson guided the run chase with a superb 68.

Eamonn Munday (76) and Michael Neves with 58 saw Perth make 242 in Third Grade and Alex Snadden with 4-43 saw the Demons home by 41 runs.
