Aaron CorlettSouthern Gazette

The Como resident and Wesley College student is a part of the High Flyers Trampoline and Gymnastics Academy’s Men’s Artistic Gymnastics High Performance Program and will represent the WA team in the level seven under 12 section at the Australian championships in May.

He was the overall gold medallist at the WA State Championships from 2012 to 2016 and won gold at the Prime Gymnastics International Invitational in Singapore last year.

Taj trains about 20 hours per week and plans to compete at more national and international competitions. He started gymnastics after watching his sister practice before being noticed for his own talents.

He said he enjoyed the support of his family, with his parents driving him to training before and after school.

“It’s really fun to do and I get to spend time with my mates,” he said. “Whenever I’m about to go on the floor, it’s the scariest moment but I have a song that I remember.

“The best moments are when I nail something that I thought I couldn’t do.”

Taj said with years of training ahead of him, he was preparing himself for difficult and fun times.

“I know there is going to be some tough times but I’m not going to give up,” he said. “You need to have passion and I love it.”
