Laura PondStirling Times

IT is no wonder rhythm and blues entertainer Movin’ Melvin Brown has created a homage to Chuck Berry for his Fringe World Festival return.

The Cincinnati-raised performer said that, just like him, Berry inspired people to dance.

“There’s something about his music that just moves people,” he said.

“R&B was big but rock ‘n’ roll didn’t start until Chuck Berry came along.

“No matter who you were or where you were, people just started to move, and they still do.”

Brown will perform Berry hits, along with original songs he wrote inspired by his idol, in Chuck Berry Lives! at festival venues in Scarborough and Subiaco next month.

His renowned dance moves will also be on show in Movin’ Melvin Brown – A Man, A Magic, A Music! where he will take the audience on a journey through his life told through singing, tap dancing, comedy and personal stories.

Brown’s career has spanned five decades, where he has worked with legendary performers including Willie Nelson, James Brown, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder.

“It has so many great elements,” he said.

“There’s a lot of great stories.”

Backed by his infectious laugh and a passion for making people happy, Brown’s shows promise a feel-good musical experience.

A Man, A Magic, A Music! is at the Big Top at Sunset Veranda in Scarborough on February 7 and 10.
