$60,000 grant to protect popular North Beach swimming spot

A STATE Government coastal grant will help protect a popular North Beach swimming spot from erosion.

The City of Stirling has been awarded $60,000 to address risks at Mettams Pool.

Acting infrastructure director Paul Kellick said the City identified Mettams Pool and the section of West Coast Drive behind it as its coastal area most at risk of erosion and rising sea levels.

“The grant will help the City to come up with possible design options to address this and safeguard the area,” he said.

“The City hopes to have a detailed design plan, agreed with the local community, available to progress in 2019-20 and/or 2020-21, subject to cost, possible grant funding and budget submissions.”
