The Hale School student was recently one of 40 students awarded a general exhibition for his school results, as well as individual academic awards for chemistry, literature, mathematics and physics.

On top of these state awards, he was also named dux and won school-based prizes in mathematics, physics, chemistry and French.

Jack said the secret to his success, which culminated in a 99.95 ATAR, was hard work and study.

‘I always hoped to do well and I tried really hard to do all the work and study required,’ he said.

‘It’s really nice to have this pay-off.’

Jack said he balanced his extra curricula activities including debating, mock trails and sport with homework and study, spending up to three hours a night working on various projects.

His advice for his two younger brothers, one of whom is about to start Year 12, and other students is simple.

‘If you are thinking about making notes or doing study, do it straight away, otherwise you will never get around to doing it,’ he said.

Jack plans to study medicine after doing an undergraduate degree in biomedical science.
