LOCAL apprentices and trainees have been recognised at the annual Hospitality Group Training (HGT) Awards.

Sean Woolford, of Karrinyup, won most outstanding final year apprentice for his work at Hillarys Yacht Club, while Wembley Downs resident Tom Warner, of Cantina 663, won the ambassador award.

Yasmine Yianni (18), of Dianella, was named the school apprentice of the year, recognising her work at Voyage Kitchen in Sorrento.

HGT general manager Iain McDougall said the awards highlighted the importance of apprentice chefs in the workforce.

“HGT employs over 100 apprentices and trainees who are currently working in hospitality venues throughout Perth and regional WA,” he said.

“We want people to know that if they’re deciding on a career path or thinking about a sea change, hospitality is a great and rewarding career option”.
