Armed robbers strike bottle shops in Darch and Balcatta

DETECTIVES are investigating two armed robberies from earlier this week in bottle shops in Darch and Balcatta.

Just before 10pm on Saturday, December 22, a man armed with a baseball bat entered a Darch bottle shop on Kingsway road and threatened two staff members while demanding cash.

He fled on foot and was followed by the staff members, who confronted him on Athenny Way as he was about to enter a dark vehicle.

He struck one of the staff members with the baseball bat, attempted to hit the other and drove off.

The victim received treatment at the Joondalup Health Campus.

The offender was described as around 185cm tall with a medium build and thin moustache, and spoke with an accent believed to be from New Zealand.

On December 24 at 10.15pm, a man armed with a baseball bat entered a drive-through bottle shop on Wanneroo Road in Balcatta on foot and threatened a staff member.

A second offender broke a glass bottle and also threatened the worker.

The pair fled with a sum of cash before getting into a car and heading in a westerly direction.

The man armed with the bat was described as around 183cm tall with olive skin, a medium build and spoke with an accent believed to be from New Zealand.

The second man was described as around 30 to 25 years old, around 203cm tall with olive skin, a solid build and dark hair with a similar accent.

Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of either incident.
