Art to be major feature of Karrinyup shops revamp

SCULPTURES inspired by coastal WA are set to be a major feature of the Karrinyup Shopping Centre redevelopment.

Medium to large scale public artworks are planned for the $800 million redevelopment, which started in November.

Centre manager AMP Capital and non-profit arts organisation FORM are calling for artistic proposals from artists and design teams for a 3D artwork in the future north east centre court, which will be suspended across two levels.

FORM project manager Katrina Longo said they were looking for ambitious contemporary works with strong connections to place and ties to the WA coastline.

“The concepts of ‘Contours’ and ‘Awakening’ are designed to aid artists in creating artworks that link the new centre, the wider community and the landscape surrounding it,” she said.

“The form and materials of the selected artwork will complement and enhance the centre’s architectural design, including sloping contoured ceilings and plentiful natural light that will flow through the skylights of the double-height void.”
