THE father of three accused of setting his young daughter on fire at their Doubleview home in August is due to face Perth Magistrates Court later this month.
Edward John Herbert appeared briefly in Perth Magistrates Court on September 29 via video link from Hakea Prison.
Police have upgraded charges to include two counts of attempted murder.
Original charges against the 43-year-old included aggravated grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.
The charges were upgraded to include two counts of attempted murder and one count each of threats to kill, being armed to cause fear and unlawful act with intent to harm or endanger life.
It will be alleged Mr Herbert doused his three children in petrol and set his three-year-old daughter alight while she slept.
Off-duty police officer First Class Constable Steph, who lives close by, said she removed the toddler from the home and put a blanket on her to put out the flames before also removing her two older siblings from the house.
“She was hanging on to me for dear life so I ended up grabbing her and telling mum I’m taking her to my house to put her in the bathtub so I took her and made sure she was in cold water,” she said.
The case was remanded to allow Mr Herbert to get legal advice for the upgraded charges.
