THE City of Stirling is calling for nominations for its annual History and Heritage Awards.

The biennial awards are separated into a history category focusing on photographs and heritage, which recognises significant houses, streetscapes, parks or ruins.

Nominations are also invited for individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution towards the education and preservation of local heritage.

Cash prizes of up to $500 across six sub-categories are up for grabs.

Stirling mayor Mark Irwin said the awards aimed to highlight the City’s local history and heritage.

“These awards unearth many interesting items that may well have remained unappreciated by the public, adding to the richness of local history perseveration and sparking many interesting conversations and connections,” he said.

The winner of the inaugural 2018 Stirling Memories award, Roda Hatzistavrid, entered a photo of her mother Margaret Taylor as Miss Scarborough in 1956.

Nominations close on February 14 and award winners will be announced on May 27, followed by a public exhibition in June.
