Balcatta: alleged red light breach leads to charges for Kenwick motorbike rider

THE alleged running of a red light led to drug and gun charges for a Kenwick motorcycle rider yesterday.

About 10am yesterday, police saw a Kawasaki motorcycle at the intersection of Wanneroo Road and Amelia Street in Balcatta.

Police allege the motorbike ran a red light.

Officers drove in the general direction the bike had gone and they found it and the rider at a residence in Collier Avenue, Balcatta.

During a search of the male rider it is alleged police located and seized a quantity of methylamphetamine.

Fremantle Detectives, with the assistance of Mirrabooka and Morley police, executed a search warrant on the residence.

It is alleged during the search police located and seized a loaded handgun, cannabis and various drug paraphernalia.

A 38-year-old man from Kenwick has been charged with possessing a firearm with circumstances of aggravation, possessing a prohibited drug, reckless driving, having no authority to drive and stealing.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
