Bedford and Tuart Hill: Catholic school teacher charged over child abuse

A FORMER Catholic school teacher in Tuart Hill and Bedford is alleged to have sexually assaulted boys while on school camps during the 70s and 80s.

Police investigated the 71-year-old man after allegations were made against him during the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sex Offences.

Officers allege the Wheatbelt man twice assaulted a student while working at a Catholic school in Bedford in 1979.

The boy was aged 13 and 14 at the time of the alleged offences.

He is also alleged to have assaulted a 13-year-old boy while working at a Catholic school in Tuart Hill between 1986 and 1987.

Police said both incidents are alleged to have happened while on school camps.

The man was also the nurse and counsellor at both schools.

Investigators charged him with four counts of aggravated indecent assault, three counts of indecent dealing with a child aged under 14 and one count of unlawfully and indecently assaulting a male.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today.
