Bethanie Geneff Lifestyle Village residents dig deep to help brighten kids’ Christmas

Julian WrightStirling Times

CHILDREN less fortunate will have a brighter Christmas this year thanks to Bethanie Geneff Lifestyle Village residents.

They spent the year collecting clothing, toiletries and stationery and raising money to send them off in care packages to those in desperate need as part of Operation Christmas Child.

This year marked the fifth year they were involved in the project, with the packing phase happening this week.

Resident Gwen York loaned a helping hand again this year.

“We’re packing show boxes for children overseas who have got nothing,” she said.

“They receive a box that has a set of clothing, hygiene stuff, something to play with and something for school.

“They go to all different countries, could be north of Australia, it could be Middle Eastern countries.

“There are thousands of boxes going, here is just a fraction of it, it is done all over Australia.

“We are aiming for 200 boxes.

“I spent all year making jams and pickles and marmalades to sell, for money that goes to sending the packages, which cost $9 each.”
