Boy nearly drowns at Mettams Pool

A FOUR-year-old boy is in a stable condition at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) after he nearly drowned at Mettams Pool in Trigg on Thursday.

The child was pulled from the water by a swimmer before paramedics were called to the beach at 12.42pm.

It was unclear how long the boy had been underwater.

A St John’s Ambulance spokesman said bystanders put the boy in the recovery position.

A City of Stirling lifeguard then performed CPR on the boy who was responsive by the time paramedics arrived.

“St John’s would like to thank those bystanders; they did a great job and did first aid so the boy could expel the water he had swallowed,” the St John spokesman said.

“He had regained consciousness by the time we got him to PMH and he was provided with oxygen treatment.

“Paramedics needed to get his body temperature up because he was quite cold.”

The boy arrived at PMH at 1.30pm and was responsive on arrival.
