A NOLLAMARA boy won a gold star bravery award at the Royal Life Saving Bravery Awards on Friday for saving his cousin’s life last year.

As reported by Community News in December 2018, Jayce Vassiliou, aged four at the time, showed his pool safety skills in saving two kids from drowning in a month.

During a family stay at Crown Hotel in Burswood, Jayce and his cousin Kourtney were playing on the steps of the pool where Kourtney removed her floaties and suddenly fell off the steps and into the water.

As Kourtney was struggling to stay afloat, Jayce immediately reached out to her and pulled her from the water before calling his grandmother for help.

This incident followed another incident where Jayce helped save a toddler who was struggling during a swimming lesson.

Jayce (now 5), said it felt very good to win an award for saving his cousin.

While he was yet to save another person since last year’s heroics, he said he wanted to take lifesaving classes when he was older.

He hoped more kids could help out people who were struggle in a pool or beach.

“If they don’t help out the people will drown,” he said.
