BREAST implants are killing women.

This is the message Scarborough resident Renee Kacz is sharing after having her second set of breast implants removed due to suffering from breast implant illness.

The 34-year-old business owner shared her experience of getting breast implants with the Stirling Times this month to raise awareness and discussion around how “toxic” they were.

Since speaking out, Ms Kacz has reached thousands of people and her story has gained further media attention.

The former lawyer said it was “incredibly” concerning that women were not told about breast implant illness.

“Breast implants kill women,” she said.

“In Australia as many as one in 1000 women with breast implants contract breast implant associated anpalastic large cell lymphoma, a type of cancer you can only get if you have implants.”

Ms Kacz said there had never been any long-term clinical testing on the impact breast implants had on people’s bodies and lives.

“Women with implants are living experiments and the substances that make up implants are toxic and potentially fatal to the human body,” she said.

“They’re not just made of silicone or saline.

“My particular implants had over 40 known heavy metals and toxicants in them.”

Ms Kacz had her breast implants removed this year and said worst of all the companies that produced these “death traps” were protected.

“While women are dying and becoming gravely ill, these companies are not required to share publicly what their implants are made of,” she said.

“We can pay tens of thousands of dollars to have them put inside our bodies, there’s proof that these devices are unsafe, yet when taken before the Supreme Court in the USA these companies that are harming millions of women are not required to reveal the entire chemical breakdown of these devices because it’s a ‘trade secret’.

“So the profits of these companies is far more important than the health of humans – that’s not OK.”

Ms Kacz said people could argue that “women chose to get implants” but women who had them done were “lied” to.

She said because of the lack of information around just what breast implants were made from, women who got breast implants were never given the “choice to provide fully informed consent”.
