MANY campaigns and businesses have been built on a powerful catchphrase and the City of Stirling is no different.

Mayor Giovanni Italiano (pictured) has championed a different theme for the past three years at each annual mayoral breakfast, which continues throughout the year.

The Stirling Times noticed Cr Italiano’s enthusiasm and commitment to his annual catchphrases, spruiking them in general conversation at every available opportunity.

The first theme, “Open for Business”, tied in with the development of the City, encouraging business owners to set up shop in what he described as the next CBD.

The following year, “It’s all Happening” was his phrase of choice, referring to large construction projects in Scarborough, Innaloo, Karrinyup and the “sleeping giant” Mirrabooka.

“After the first year I decided to have a theme for each subsequent breakfast, so the second year the theme was “Open for Business” indicating to the business community that the City is really keen to work with our local businesses,” he said.

This year Cr Italiano will launch his newest theme, “Building on Success”, centred around developments at Karrinyup Shopping Centre and Westfield Innaloo about to progress.

“The new State Government’s election commitment towards the extension of Stephenson Avenue is now something the City can build on in the provision of much-needed infrastructure to open the whole precinct up and address traffic congestion in the area,” he said.
