Ms Rao said she had been interested in supporting a charity for a while.

“For a while I had been looking to support a charitable cause and when the opportunity to support The Hunger Project came along I jumped at the chance,” she said.

“The fact that they give people a hand up and not a hand out is one of the reasons I am so passionate about supporting them.

“Their focus on women and empowering them to be the change in their future is a wonderful mission and with a huge challenge to end world hunger by 2030, I am so pleased to be involved.”

Ms Rao has organised a fundraiser screening of Disney’s Queen of Katwe at Event Cinemas Innaloo ahead of its December national release.

She said the movie, which stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, is a true story of a Ugandan girl who discovers chess and pursues her dream of becoming a champion.

Ticket holders will also receive a gift bag and go in the draw for door and raffle prizes.
