Business Chicks Leadership and Immersion program teams up with The Hunger Project for fundraiser

FORMER Perth resident Jo Rao will come back home to host a charity event in Innaloo this month.

Ms Rao committed to the 2016 Business Chicks Leadership and Immersion program which has partnered with The Hunger Project to support and develop women leaders and create a space for women to connect, stretch and make a difference in the world.

She will head to Malawi in November as part of the volunteer work.

Ms Rao said she had been interested in supporting a charity for a while.

“For a while I had been looking to support a charitable cause and when the opportunity to support The Hunger Project came along I jumped at the chance,” she said.

“The fact that they give people a hand up and not a hand out is one of the reasons I am so passionate about supporting them.

“Their focus on women and empowering them to be the change in their future is a wonderful mission and with a huge challenge to end world hunger by 2030, I am so pleased to be involved.”

Ms Rao has organised a fundraiser screening of Disney’s Queen of Katwe at Event Cinemas Innaloo ahead of its December national release.

She said the movie, which stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, is a true story of a Ugandan girl who discovers chess and pursues her dream of becoming a champion.

Ticket holders will also receive a gift bag and go in the draw for door and raffle prizes.
