City of Stirling community safety manager Laurie Crouch said the cameras had been installed after consultation with local shopkeepers to address security concerns and deter incidences of antisocial behaviour.

‘The City is in the process of replacing the cameras with a higher level of security and the method of installation being determined with the contractor,’ Mr Crouch said.

‘It is an unfortunate situation, as the cameras are digitally coded and cannot be used for any other purpose or on any other CCTV system.’

Stirling installed the cameras over two stages, costing about $50,000 from a State Government grant.
