Tom Rabe, Stirling TimesStirling Times

The Chairman of the UN inquiry into North Korea said he saw contradictions in statements made by Bishop Davies regarding acceptance of asylum seekers and denouncement of gay marriage. Bishop Davies said he believed both sides of Australian politics were guilty of using asylum seekers as political pawns. ‘Sadly [asylum seekers have] become a political football in recent years, with politicians playing to irrational fears within our society’well as supported by the Anglican Church in the years ahead. ‘It will be resolved, it may take time but what we have to acknowledge is that the Anglican Church is really the only global Christian, Islamic or Jewish religion of the book which I struggling with this issue in a very direct way and I think that is to the great credit of the Anglican Communion.’
