City of Stirling Art Award and Exhibition shows off stunning local works

STUNNING works by local artists featured at the recent City of Stirling Art Award and Exhibition.

The biennial event featured more than 180 artworks across a variety of mediums on display at the City’s administration centre.

It included a collaboration with South Metropolitan Tafe, where students created wearable art pieces.

The local artist award was presented to Hank Gidney, Stephanie De Biasi won best emerging artist for the 16 to 25 years old category, Daevid Anderson was awarded best painting and Julie Podstolski won the drawing award.

Other winners included Mikaela Castledine for the 3D sculpture category and Cathy Charnaud for best mixed media work.

Sorrento artist Shelley Cowper won $5000 for the overall first prize for her artwork The Boatyard, which was described by judges as an “exceptionally mature and confident use of mixed media.”

The piece will form part of the City’s art collection.
