The woman, who did want to be identified, said she was sitting outside on the porch when she noticed the dog running towards her.

City of Swan chief executive Mike Foley said the City was currently investigating a dog attack which was reported on March 12.

‘The dog which is alleged to have committed the attack is not at its last known address,’ Mr Foley said.

‘The City is trying to trace the dog owner to determine the location of the animal.’

The City is continuing to make inquiries.

Dog owners are reminded of steps to take to prevent or avoid an attack situation:

Always keep your dog on a leash;

Ensure your dog gets regular exercise, to avoid boredom and irritability;

Make sure your dog is properly trained and disciplined. Ask your vet if they run dog obedience classes;

Never allow your dog to wander unsupervised;

Ensure you have appropriate and secure fencing on your property;

If your dog has displayed unpredictable behaviour previously, always keep it leashed and remain vigilant around other dogs and owners.

If an attack occurs, and depending on the nature of the attack, owners can be fined between $100 to $10,000 in court.
