City of Stirling to start campaign promoting responsible dog ownership in parks

THE City of Stirling will start a “Responsible Dog Ownership” campaign to remind dog owners of their legal obligations.

Community Safety acting manager Brett Spencer said rangers would be attending parks and reserves to proactively promote, educate and encourage owners to be “responsible dog owners”.

”Most parks and reserves under the care, control and management of the City are classified as dog exercise areas,” Mr Spencer said.

“Dogs are permitted to be exercised ‘off-lead’ in those locations, however all dogs must remain under the ‘effective control’ of the owner at all times.

“Failure to do so may result in an on-the-spot fine being issued – starting from $200. Owners or those in control of a dog are responsible for cleaning up after their dog.”
