Cyclist reaches the summit of his sport

The 64-year-old took part in the tour, which takes riders on a 450km five-day trek across the Indonesian island.

He is now riding 400km a week to take part in the Santos Great Bike Ride on November 23.

‘Training is something I’ve always done and I consider myself a pretty fit person,’ he said.

‘I’ve been to Spain twice and done the Tour de Catalunya in Northern Spain in 2003 and 2007.

‘And for the Santos ride, I think I will just enjoy it.’

Previously a marathon runner with the Karrinyup Running Club, Ferris said he loved the freedom bike riding gave him.

‘I did 15 years of marathon running and have been riding for 18 years,’ he said.

‘I retired two years ago and I love being out on the road.

‘It’s the freedom being out on the road, looking at the different scenery.

‘It’s nice to get out and when I don’t ride, I miss the adrenalin.’

Ferris will be joined by his Bali riding crew for the Santos tour in November.
