THE next step has been taken in the $130 million extension of Stephenson Avenue.

The State and Federal governments announced on February 19 they were seeking tenders for the first stage of the project, which will be managed by the City of Stirling.

It will involve creation of a dual carriageway extending Stephenson Avenue from Scarborough Beach Road to Sarich Court in Osborne Park, with traffic lights at intersections of Ellen Stirling Boulevard, Oswald Street and Howe Street, as well as on-street parking, pedestrian and cycle paths and landscaping.

Work is expected to start mid-year and will be followed by Main Roads building the Stephenson Avenue connection to the Mitchell Freeway and Sarich Court in 2021.

The City will create the final phase of the project connecting Sarich Court to Cedric Street.

Premier Mark McGowan said it would encourage investment in the Stirling city centre and “help unlock private investment in a key CBD hub outside of Perth”.

Once finished, the project will give drivers a direct route to Osborne Park from the freeway.
