A DIANELLA resident will be cruising through country towns in a vintage 1957 Chevy to raise funds for a children’s charity next week.

Helen Symes and her partner Dino Palumbo will be participating in the Variety Creative Car Cruise, which starts in Gingin on March 9 and finishes in Wanneroo.

The ride features visits to schools and beachfront stops in Dongara, Port Denison, Geraldton and Jurien Bay.

Funds go towards empowering WA kids who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs through the provision of practical equipment, programs and experiences.

Ms Symes said this year’s car cruise would be her sixth.

“About five years ago, we decided to join because it looked like a fun thing to do with couples just going away for a few days and being able to enjoy and being with a great group of people,” she said.

“(I enjoy) going to schools and seeing the smiles on all the kids’ faces when they get all the stuff that Variety; the Children’s Charity of WA provided for them through the fundraising.

“I am really looking forward to doing something different other than driving down south for a change and meeting up with new people that have joined.”

Ms Symes said she and Mr Palumbo were fond of the 1957 Chevy.

“I just like it because it is a big, classic car,” she said.

“It is a nice, classic and old-fashioned car and it is a comfortable car to drive in.”

In 2016, the Variety Creative Car Cruise raised more than $185,000.
