Drug search leads to arrest over high-speed car chase

Laura PondStirling Times

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly driving more than 90km/h above the speed limit in a stolen car to escape police.

The arrest came after Scarborough Police executed a search warrant at an Innaloo home on February 20 looking for drugs.

Senior Sergeant Craig Wanstall said they seized 2.7g of methamphetamine, smoking implements, a taser and suspected stolen property from the Barnes Street property.

They also discovered the 33-year-old Innaloo man was wanted in relation to suspected driving offences in Alexander Heights and Landsdale.

Sgt Wanstall said on January 20 officers tried to stop the man, who was driving a red Mazda reported stolen from Scarborough in early January, but he sped off sparking a car chase.

They say the accused reached speeds of up to 160km/h on Alexander Drive, where the speed limit is 70km/h, and 95km/h on a signposted 50km/h street.

He is also alleged to have driven on the wrong side of the road and narrowly avoided colliding with other cars.

The man will face court on February 27 on various charges including possessing a prohibited weapon, drug possession, reckless driving and no authority to drive.

A 31-year-old woman was also arrested at the Innaloo home and charged with possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and stolen property.
