Encore celebration

Belinda CiprianoStirling Times

The North Beach resident held a birthday party honouring the work done by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Encore program, a program his friend Mrs Archer had participated in after undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Mr Balkau and his wife Wanda said they had seen how the program had improved the life of their friend and wanted to be able to help the program somehow.

‘We wanted to raise money for a charity that helped people with breast cancer and we saw how Encore had helped Sue, so instead of receiving presents for my birthday, we asked that guests donate money to the program,’ he said.

The eight-week program includes gentle floor and hydrotherapy exercises to meet the exercise and support needs of women after the trauma of their treatment in a nurturing and supportive environment.
