Firefighter Steve McCarthy said he started the fundraising initiative last year to raise the public’s awareness of Telethon as well as the airport fire service itself.
As a father of two, Mr McCarthy said he had experience with Princess Margaret Hospital and the excellent work Telethon do for children and their families.
‘Everyone in the job has an underlying reason to look out for the community, that’s why they became fire fighters so it’s pretty important to all the guys to raise money for such a worthy cause,’ he said.
‘Last year, on behalf of Telethon, we managed to raise more than $9000.
‘We hope to do this again this year with the hope of raising more,’ he said.
