Laura PondStirling Times

STIRLING cat owners have another year to take advantage of free registration for their pet.

The City of Stirling has extended its free one-year cat registration initiative until October 2020.

A report to the September 10 council meeting said new one-year cat registrations increased by 485 per cent since the initiative started, rising from 75 between February and August 2018 to 364 in the same 2019 period.

The report estimated more than 20,000 cats remained unregistered in the City, with rates, despite the trial’s success, still “below expectations”.

The City is expected to forego nearly $14,000 to continue the initiative.
