MODEL and former western suburbs resident Gemma Ward graced the stage last night at the VIP Spring-Summer 2016 Fashion Launch at Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

The 28-year-old, who is currently pregnant with her second child, flew back to Perth to be ambassador for the event and share a bit about this season’s upcoming trends.

The model said she remembered visiting the shopping centre as a child and it was great to be back to take part in the event.

She said trends to look out for included the ‘90s slip dress, Cuban-infused design and sports luxe clothing.

“I think sports clothes will really represent this period of fashion,” she said.

“We’re also seeing Cuba has opened up and infused itself in some of the designs, as well as showing skin in some new ways.”

Denim, flares, platforms sandals and patent leather were on show at the launch, with the ‘70s and ‘90s making a comeback on the runway.

Ward said she was looking forward to seeing the end of the cold weather and putting away the boots, black clothes and jumpers.

She said despite changing trends there were essential items in a woman’s wardrobe that never went out of style.

“I think a good leather jacket or at least a black blazer is a must,” she said.

“As well as a little black dress and a good clean-line shoe that isn’t too chunky.”

Ward said she loved coming back to Perth, but many of her family had now moved away.

“I think I know more Perth people in California, but it’s nice to come back,” she said.

“My favourite memories of Perth are going for family holidays down the coast or on the family farm.”
