“I shouted out when they announced my name,” she said.

Mrs McLaren, who is a judge at the annual gerbera show, said her husband did the majority of the gardening now but she was a keen floral artist.

“He talks to the flowers everyday, we show them at the annual show and over at WA Gerberas group in South Perth,” she said.

“Gardening is really relaxing and we need new growers all the time, that’s why we do our shopping centre displays to promote the group.”

Mrs McLaren said she had made lifelong friends through her involvement with the group.

The Gerbera Research Group annual show and sale is on May 7 at the Hamersley Recreation Hall from 10am-3pm.
