A GIRL has escaped punishment after being charged with stealing from a Balga liquor store.

The 14-year-old was remanded in custody overnight on August 13 after previously missing three court dates.

She faced court on August 14 charged with stealing a 1L bottle of Jack Daniel’s worth $78 from the store on May 3.

Police said CCTV footage showed her at the store with a group of people and was charged from stealing from the same store in February.

She was aged 13 at the time of the offence.

Magistrate Stephen Vose acknowledged her personal difficulties and said she would face no further punishment but wanted her to connect with the Aboriginal Legal Service’s youth engagement program.

“We’re worried. We’d like to do something worthwhile for you,” he said.

“It’s up to you. I want you to know where you can get support if you need it.”
