Harry Potter enticing boys into acting

Laura PondStirling Times

A HOGWARTS castle is setting the stage at an Osborne Park studio for boys to feel more comfortable joining in performing arts.

Vogue Performers is launching Harry Potter-themed drama classes in July to make concert performances more enticing and boy-friendly.

The 45-minute classes are for ages eight and above, and unlike musical theatre, extra dance and singing classes are not required.

Owner Leanna Del Basso said she sourced a 15m Hogwarts castle backdrop and props including a flying “snitch” to appeal to children.

“Traditionally, boys haven’t been given the same opportunities for performing arts,” she said.

“But we’ve created a happy, non-judgemental environment and they experience an explosion of confidence on stage in just six to 12 weeks.”

Student Thomas Cole (10), of Doubleview, said the theme was “awesome” and the main reason he would join the classes, which run Friday and Saturday afternoons from July 20.
