Hypnotists doesn’t need to be under a spell to back diabetes fundraiser

Julian WrightStirling Times

AFTER watching his diabetic grandfather jab himself with a needle daily, Matt Hale was keen to jump on board as a Diabetes WA ambassador.

The Scarborough-based hypnotist, who recently completed a string of shows at the Perth Fringe Festival, has turned his attention to helping others with Run for a Reason on May 28.

“Outside of my show I help people lose weight, quit smoking and manage their stress, and those three things are helpful in preventing type 2 diabetes,” he said.

“I try stay generally happy and healthy and I find that staying very active keeps me very happy and I think if more people could do some kind of physical exercise then it increases your well-being.”

Hale said that as a child he saw his grandfather inject himself with insulin every day.

“As a kid growing up, this was back a long time ago, so this is way before the technology has developed to where the needles are now but back then it was like putting this massive thing into his leg every day,” he said.

“It is quite confronting when you’re five or six years old.”

Hale said he hoped to see many people sign up to run to raise money.

“I’m just encouraging people to take part, individually or in a team,” he said.

“We will have a team running, so if anyone wants to run under the same banner Team HypnoHale, they can.”

Participants have the option of the 4km, 12km and half marathon for the run.
