Karrinyup kids make disaster relief kits

Laura PondStirling Times

CHILDREN in Karrinyup have helped put together emergency disaster relief kits to help people affected by bushfires.

Staff and children from Our Lady of Good Counsel School’s out of school care program Discovery Kids partnered with volunteer group Wellness Advocates Natural Disaster Support (WANDS) to make the kits.

They contained toothbrushes, toothpaste, tissues, lip balm, soap, a tea bag and message.

Discovery Kids bought the items with donations from parents and children packed the kits, which were then given to WANDS.

Another bushfire relief fundraiser garnered $783.55 for support efforts.

“I wanted to do this as I was seeing on the news how bad lots of the animals and people were affected by the fires,” Carys said.

“I wanted to do something myself to help them out, even if it was only going to be little bit, but every little bit would help in some way.”
