Ms Sterle (26) will host a fundraising champagne breakfast on January 19 at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Cottesloe ahead of her swim to Rottnest next month.

This is the second year in a row she has competed in the 19.7km crossing to raise money for the Dogs’ Refuge Home.

‘I’ve been volunteering here since 2011 and I’ve always been a massive dog person, so it makes sense,’ the Subiaco resident said.

‘We gave just over $7000 last year, so I’m hoping to get more than $10,000 this year.’

Ms Sterle said a lot of her training and preparation for the swim was building muscle walking strong dogs available for adoption like Xavier.

‘Xavier was the perfect model. I’m sure with all his energy he could easily swim to Rotto and back,’ she said.
