Man admits stealing from Perth business to feed gambling habit

A MAN has admitted stealing from an Osborne Park business to feed his gambling habit.

Matthew Joshua Macukat pleaded guilty to stealing two portable fridges from BCF on Scarborough Beach Road on October 10, and another two fridges several days earlier.

Macukat appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on December 18 via video link from Acacia Prison, where he is serving an 18-month sentence for burglary.

He told Magistrate Stephen Wilson other stealing charges he was convicted of during sentencing attracted prison terms to be served concurrently, and believed these two charges would have been dealt with the same way if they had have been considered together.

He said he previously sold the four items, worth more than $4000, for $1600 on Gumtree.

“I sold them to support my gambling habit,” he said.

Mr Wilson sentenced Macukat to four months imprisonment on both charges to be served concurrent with his existing sentence and ordered him to pay $4196 compensation to BCF.

He will be eligible for parole in July.
