POLICE have charged a man after a dramatic car chase ending in Innaloo.

Drivers and residents along busy Karrinyup Road were stunned to witness police officers chase and arrest a driver after he fled from the car near Muir Street about 3pm on Tuesday.

The pursuit started in Balga when patrolling officers tried to stop a Mitsubishi Lancer on Ravenswood Drive.

Police allege the driver failed to stop and evaded police through Balga and Nollamara before heading west along Karrinyup Road in Innaloo.

The driver rammed the police car several times while near the intersection of Muir and Karrinyup before he and a passenger ran from their vehicle.

The driver got into the back seat of a nearby car before police arrested him.

Police have charged a 35-year-old Midvale man with driving with a suspended licence, drug possession, failing to stop, assault intending to prevent arrest, reckless driving and breaching bail.

He will face Perth Magistrates Court today.
