A MAN was arrested after he was allegedly caught stealing copper wiring from an Osborne Park business.

The 42-year-old Doubleview man was allegedly attempting to steal copper wiring from a business on Guthrie Street on April 14 between 4am and 6am.

About 6am a worker arrived and confronted him before calling police who arrested him shortly after.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Dowding said police conducted a search of the man’s house and found more stolen copper wire, three-phase electrical piping and copper piping.

Sgt Dowding said the man was a repeat offender when it came to stealing copper wiring to sell.

“Stealing copper wiring and pipes is fairly common, people rip the copper out from water systems in new housing developments and then sell the material as scrap metal,” he said.

The man was charged with aggravated burglary.
