Elderly woman attacked at retirement village

A MAN has been charged with assaulting an elderly woman in Karrinyup.

Police allege the 37-year-old Innaloo man knocked on the front door of the 79-year-old victim’s retirement village unit on Prisk Street on January 23 at 9am.

He allegedly asked for a drink of water before grabbing the woman and pushing her aside, entering her home, where he stole $150 from her wallet.

The accused was arrested the next day after police responded to reports of a man behaving suspiciously near homes on Pascoe Street and Burroughs Road in Karrinyup.

He was remanded in custody on charges including stealing, aggravated home burglary, assault, trespass and obstructing police.

He was also charged in relation to an alleged burglary on Holbeck Street in Doubleview and will next face court on January 31.
