A CAR dealership in Osborne Park has received a two year extension to build a $16 million, 10-storey showroom and office building.

The Metro North-West Development Assessment Panel recently approved the extension for the Barbagallo Motors site on the corner of Scarborough Beach Road and Frobisher Street.

The panel originally approved the plans in July 2016, giving the owners two years to substantially start redevelopment works before approval would lapse.

However, a September report presented to the panel said they had not yet started construction due to “depressed market conditions” and because they were waiting to get a building permit from the City of Stirling.

The panel agreed to extend the approval to July 11, 2020 and the plans for the 4667sq m site remained the same as those approved in 2016.

“The application proposes to demolish the existing Barbagallo car sales premises and redevelop the site into a 10-storey mixed use development comprising car sales, offices and a café or alfresco area and public realm area,” the report said.
