This year was the first time the competition was open to a male and a female fashion ambassador with Selam Berhanu named Ms En and Mr Italiano named Mr Ex for the 2013-14 autumn/winter advertising campaign.

The 22-year-old from Balcatta said his younger sister entered him in the competition without him knowing and he never expected to win.

The North Beach footballer was one of 60 entrants and was selected in the first cut of 35 finalists to face off on April 14, when the winners were announced, at the event hosted by former Miss Universe Australia and enex100 ambassador Jesinta Campbell.

‘I took it as a laugh,’ he said. ‘I thought it would be cool to meet Jesinta Campbell so I went along with it, not expecting to win.

‘It was good, we were all just mingling for a while and then they called my name.

‘I was shocked.’

After being a civil designer for about five years at the City of Nedlands, Mr Italiano said he was open to anything his new role would throw at him.

‘Bring it on,’ he said.

‘I wouldn’t mind getting out of my day job and trying new things.’

The self-proclaimed ‘massive sportsman’ already has had calls from modelling agencies but has taken it all in his stride.

‘I’ve never modelled but I’m willing to give it a go,’ he said.

‘I’m not a ‘selfie’ kind of guy but I don’t mind having my picture taken.’

He said surprisingly he had positive feedback from his colleagues with his casual security guard workmates more excited about the competition win than he was.

‘My friends have been really supportive,’ he said.

‘The footy boys haven’t been too bad either, but I cop it. Now they call me Mr Ex.

‘It’s all in good nature though.’

As part of the competition win Mr Italiano received a $1000 enex100 shopping voucher and will appear in an upcoming photo shoot spread in STM.
