MORE than 6500 Doubleview, Karrinyup, Gwelup and Innaloo homes will connect to the National Broadband Network (NBN) when it is officially switched on in the area today.
About 18,000 premises in neighbouring suburbs are also expected to connect within the next few months including parts of Churchlands, Herdsman, Osborne Park, Stirling, Wembley Downs and Woodlands according to NBN spokeswoman Philippa Perry.
Ms Perry said connecting to the network was not automatic.

READ NOW“The move to the NBN is not automatic and may take some planning and coordination,” she said.
“Residents and business owners in the area are encouraged to contact their preferred phone company and internet service provider to connect their home or business to services over to the NBN.”
Stirling MHR Michael Keenan said the NBN rollout had been a “topic of great discussion” in his electorate.
Mr Keenan said he met with Curtin MHR Julie Bishop and Communications Minister Mitch Fifield to discuss the network rollout.
“I look forward to continuing these discussions with Minister Fifield over the next few months to ensure that as many Stirling residents as possible who are able to connect to the network do so,” he said.
Stirling Mayor Giovanni Italiano said the staged introduction of the NBN was “great news” for the community.
“I cannot stress how important it is for residents to sign up to the NBN via their phone or internet service provider within 12 months of connection or they will be required to pay for a new connection,” he said.
“I encourage residents to check the NBN website to find out when connection at their address is scheduled, or they can register for email alerts as the rollout continues.”
